Mirror mirror on the wall... is this the best fairy tale adaptation of all? The stunning new trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman promises a visual masterpiece

The first teaser trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman has been released, and has already set tongues wagging about the hotly anticipated adaption of the classic fairy tale.
The grown-up version of the children's story boasts Twilight's Kristen Stewart in the title role, with Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman and Charlize Theron as a malevolent evil queen.
Capitalising on the Breaking Dawn buzz, the trailer will surely whet the appetites of K-Stew fans dreading the gap between the next two Twilight installments.

Steals the show? Charlize Theron's evil queen is the star of the trailer at least

The trailer opens with a chilling speech from Charlize, who utters in a (convincing) English accent: 'Do you hear that? It's the sound of battles fought, and lives lost. It once pained me to know that I am the cause of such despair. But now their cries give me strength.'

'Beauty is my power,' she adds, before the scene cuts to her 'sucking' the life from a hapless girl before throwing her mercilessly to the ground.
The magic mirror morphs into a cloaked  human shape to answer his mistress's question: 'Mirror mirror on the wall, who is fairest of them all?'

To no-one's surprise but the queen, he replies: 'You are the fairest, but there is another destined to surpass you. Consume her heart, and you shall live forever,'
Outraged, the queen orders her minions: 'Find me someone who doesn't fear the dark forest to hunt her down.'
The huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame, is threatened with death unless he captures and kills Snow White.

Though his mission is to bring the evil queen her rival's heart, he ends up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.
The film also stars Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones and Ray Winstone among the dwarves.
Produced by Alice In Wonderland's Joe Roth, it is clearly a visual feast, with no expenses spared on sweeping landscapes and stunning effects.

Though the trailer has already been praised for its design and the beautiful shots, there has been concern that Kristen's portrayal of Snow White would be too similar to that of the role she is most famous for, Bella Swan.
Stewart recently revealed however that she was not initially attracted to the role of Snow White, but became interested after realising the new version was a very different take on the classic character.
She truly does not let her heart cloud her mind,' the Twilight actress told Entertainment Weekly earlier this summer. 'Also I get to have a sword and stuff, and really cool weapons.

'This girl has the amazing ability to channel fear, things that people are typically afraid to do, into this really focused, really charged, driving energy,' she added.
The 21-year-old star looked pale and exhausted as she was spotted filming scenes for her upcoming film, Snow White And The Huntsman, in Surrey this afternoon.
The U.S. actress is currently promoting the latest installment to the Twilight Saga as well as playing the fairytale character in the 2012 movie.

Wearing a brown medieval dress with grubby jeans and boots, Kristen looked worlds away from the Disney character that many people will associate the storyline with, but it was her complexion that looked more downcast.
The actress looked tired and fed up as she hung around on the outdoor set in between takes.
She was still wearing a bandage on her right hand after she injured herself filming horse riding scenes in Wales last week.

Perhaps Kristen was in pain with the injury as well as feeling a little jet lagged from her trip to Los Angeles.
At one point the brunette was seen holding her hand on her hip and as she waited around for the crew members to prepare the location for her next scene.
But she wasn't alone as she had her hunky co-star, Chris Hemsworth, to keep her company.

The Australian actor plays the Huntsman in the highly-anticipated film and certainly looked the part in grubby shirt and trousers, chunky knee-high boots and his scruffy hair pulled back into a ponytail.
The pair were joined by a young actress, who was also dressed in medieval attire.
Kristen was later spotted filming a scene with the girl by the lakeside.
No doubt the Twilight star has jetted back to the UK for the vampire film's London premiere next week.

She joined her on/off screen lover Robert Pattinson in Los Angeles last week at a hand and foot print ceremony at Graumans Theatre and also appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
The actress is probably looking forward to when the Twilight promotional tour ends and she can concentrate more on filming the fairytale adaptation - her co-star certainly is.
Robert has said it's 'time to move on' from his blood-sucking role and is looking forward to laying low for a little while.

Speaking to Marie Claire UK, the British actor said: 'If you’re just an empty shell with your face stuck on everything, then there’s only so long the hysteria can last.
'I don’t like people taking my photo — ever,' he added. 'If there’s anything that stresses me out it’s people following me around.
'Most actors encourage the attention because they think it will make them have a more lasting career. I don’t think that’s the case. The more you reveal yourself, the less interesting people find you. Mystery lasts a lot longer, so you just hide.'

But Kristen won't be doing a lot of hiding, especially as the first promotional picture for Snow White And The Huntsman was released by Universal Pictures yesterday.
The banner for the upcoming film centers on Kristen Stewart, and the dark and distorted take on the Disney classic is clearly evident in the artwork.
Stewart is seen standing in woods, armed with a large dagger.
She is clad in a leather dress and knee-high boots, and turns provocatively to her side.

Alongside her in the three-way banner, is Charlize Theron's villainous Evil Snow Queen, also armed with a hefty blade.
Wearing a high-collared cape, ravens ominously circle around her.
Meanwhile, The Huntsman emerges from the tree branches wood wielding an axe, edging dangerously close to Stewart.

New Moon premiere: Twilight actresses dazzle at New Moon premiere but fans swoon over Robert Pattinson

Thousands of fans turned out to see the stars of the Twilight saga at the New Moon premiere in Los Angeles last night.
But although the screaming teenage girls were predominantly there to see their favourite actors Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, it was the female stars who looked showstopping on the red carpet.
Both Kristen Stewart with her kooky sense of style and stunning actress Ashley Greene have graced magazine covers in recent months.

Ashley Greene, 22, Alice Cullen in the movie, wore a clinging but elegant red Prabal Gurung gown with shoulder detail and large hoop earrings.

The traffic-stopping outfit even required an extra person to help her walk the carpet.

Ashley Greene told interviewers: 'My goodness, I just pulled up, and I got so nervous again.
'People always ask if I'm used to it, but there's no way to get used to it, because they just keep getting more and more exciting. [The fans] are very passionate, and it keeps getting bigger. It's incredible.'

Po-faced lovers. Potty Plots. Woeful special effects. It's time to nail the coffin shut on the Twilight Saga... Save us from the vapid vampires!

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (12A)
Verdict: Breaking down, more like it
Rating: 1 Star Rating
The suits behind the flamboyantly successful Twilight movie franchise —  worth £1.2  billion and counting — have followed Harry Potter’s lead by splitting the final novel into two.
But whereas the Potter series gained from that decision, the Twilight Saga loses almost all its impetus.

In the Potter stories, extra screen time allowed the leading characters to deepen; the reverse is true here.

Stephenie Meyer’s characters are becoming ever less plausible. And the dialogue in this movie is the most leaden and banal in the series.

And before all you Twilight fans complain that I’m too old to appreciate the movies, check out my review of the first film; I awarded it four stars out of five.
But a rather good original idea has dwindled into self-parody.

This film, a certain box-office hit thanks to the saga’s fanatical following, covers the first half of Meyer’s fourth book.
It starts with the lavish wedding of hot yet cool vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson), aged 108, to feisty yet droopy 18-year-old Bella (Kristen Stewart).

The nuptials are so kitsch they could have been designed by Russell Grant, and take a seemingly endless half-hour.
Anyone not obsessed with hair, make-up and lingerie may find it a near-death experience.

The inaction moves on to a turgid honeymoon on an island near Rio.

There’s lovemaking so passionless it barely warrants a 12A certificate, accompanied by the world’s weediest pop music.

From there it’s on to the speediest pregnancy in history, and an alarmingly gruesome childbirth.
The film-makers’ coyness about sex is strangely at odds with the grisliness of the Caesarean section, which might well put an impressionable 11-year-old girl off ever giving birth.

The only action comes in the form of a desultory battle towards the end, badly choreographed and featuring unpersuasive computer animation.
During this, the third lead, werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner), has to choose between his own kind and continuing to stalk his emo ex-girlfriend. Tough call.

Teenage girls will probably be less interested in the story than in the earliest point where Mr Lautner rips off his shirt: these film-makers know their audience, and it’s within seconds of the opening.

The movie seems deeply confused as to how vampires procreate.
Now it is the normal human way, whereas earlier in the series vampires continued their line by biting humans.
The writers seem to be changing the rules as they go along.

Poor old Edward is clearly as much in the dark as the audience.
At one point, he goes on a search engine to look up ‘demon children’.
The mystery is why he didn’t go to it a bit earlier and look up ‘birth control’.

Skip the next two paragraphs if you don’t want to read a spoiler, but the climax depends on the notion that a grown-up werewolf can ‘imprint’ upon a baby at birth and make that offspring forever tied sexually to him.
Yes, a werewolf can fall in love with a baby, and vice versa!

The idea is deeply creepy, bordering on paedophile, and completely at odds with the surely much healthier notion that an adult has the right to fall in love with anyone he or she chooses. Maybe even a non-werewolf.

Director Bill Condon has made classy films in the past, notably Gods And Monsters and Kinsey, but he has never shown much sense of humour or feeling for pace or action.
He is ideally unsuited to this material.

His attitude towards the Twilight Saga is reverential. There is none of the intentional comedy that enlivened the first Twilight movie.
The only laughs in this are from the po-faced dialogue, potty plotting and wooden performances.
