No can do:  turned down an invite to the Marine Corps Ball due to 'prior commitments'
Scarlett Johansson graciously declined to accompany an American serviceman to the Marine Corps Ball.
The Hollywood actress said she felt 'incredibly honoured' to have received an invite from Sgt. Dustin L. Williams to the November event - but said she would be unable to attend due to 'prior commitments'.
She did, however, send a case of Moet champagne for him to drown his sorrows.
Sgt. Williams is the latest U.S. Marine to ask a celebrity on a date to the soiree, with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis already having accepted YouTube invitations.
In his video invitation, Sgt. Williams says he would love to spend an evening with 'classy, beautiful' Scarlett.
He is then seen in a montage, lacing up his boots and buckling up his uniform to the sound track of Eye Of The Tiger, which then segways into Stayin' Alive.
Speaking to Zap2it, Johansson, 26, commended the Marine for his 'cheeky talent for film-making'.
Making her excuses, Scarlett told the website: 'I feel incredibly honoured to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams.
'Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking.'
But she continued: 'Unfortunately, due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year.

'But I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation.'
Betty White, 89, is another celeb who regretfully had to turn down an invite.
But Sgt. Ray Lewis quickly got another offer, from Terminator actress Linda Hamilton.
She said at the time in a YouTube posting: 'Look, I know that I am no Betty White. But I would be really, really thrilled - if you can't find anybody else, and I know that's unlikely - to go to the ball with you. I could go!'
