The casting for Oldboy is seriously getting underway, with an offering going out to Mia Wasikowska for the female lead...
There's been a fair few rumours thrown around about who will be taking the lead roles in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, and we can now add Mia Wasikowska's name to the list. She has been offered the female lead of Marie, and should she accept, would be starring alongside Josh Brolin in the film.
Lee is directing from Mark Protosevich's script, which reportedly differs from the original in several ways. The film is about a man who's kidnapped and held prisoner for 15-years, before finally being released. He sets out to find that person responsible and uncover the reason for his fate, enlisting the help of a young woman (Wasikowska) on the way.
The part has also been linked to Rooney Mara, so there's definitely a certain ethereal 'type' the casting people are going for. Both actresses can play intense roles extremely well, and Wasikowska would seemingly be a great fit.
